We are delighted to announce that four leading artists, who all have a local connection, have donated a piece of their artwork for us to raise funds for Saint Michael’s Hospice. Tony Brummell Smith has donated a signed limited edition print of ‘Al Ponte Antico’ which hangs in the Hotel Venice in that fabulous town. Alan Coulson has donated the signed artist’s proof of his great portrait of ‘Honest Thomas,’ which featured in the National Portrait Gallery BP Portrait Award exhibition in 2017. John McClenaghen kindly donated “Field Diffraction” and Kitty North donated “Moonlit Night.”

Working together with my close friend, Rachel Mann, who recently moved to live in Devon, Bias Store is hosting a unique art event to raise funds for Saint Michael’s Hospice. We are privileged to have four wonderful works of art from local and nationally renowned artists to auction together with works of art produced by the students of Harrogate Grammar School.

Rachel has been a passionate supporter of Saint Michael’s Hospice and she dreamed up this event about a year ago. We’re delighted that her dreams and ideas are soon to be realised. We are humbled that four artists with connections to North Yorkshire have chosen to work with us.

The main event takes place on Thursday 23 May at a ticket only Private  Viewing taking place from 7pm and 9pm at Bias Store. Please purchase your tickets from Eventbrite by clicking this link or from in the store. Tickets cost £11 and include refreshments donated by Cold Bath Deli and drinks supplied by the hospice. Bids for the works of art are to be made by email to [email protected] and must be titled ‘Art Fundraiser Bid

Throughout the coming weeks, everyone is encouraged to pop into the store and view the works of art. Outcomes of the auction and the new owners of the artworks will be published on Friday 31 May.

In addition to the four key works of art in Bias, we’ve been delighted to be working with Year 12 students from Harrogate Grammar School who have been inspired by a poem chosen by Rachel and have designed and worked on some amazing creations. Some of this work will be on display in Bias but all of their fantastic work will be on show at a specially curated exhibition in the new educational room at the Mercer Gallery.

This exhibition will take place during the week of May half term and students will be at the exhibition to talk about the poems that inspired their ideas.

The artworks featured in this newsletter are the very same prints that are hanging in Bias and are being sold to raise funds for St Michael’s Hospice.
